the late great Jack Hargreaves, true countryman

Please be patient as the player does take a little while to load- it is worth the wait

The first clip you see is dedicated to Jack Hargreaves, a real countryman. I've added a few bits of information about him and a link to a site dedicated to him. I really do recommend that you visit the site as it shows that Jack had a very good grip on sustainability and if more in this world were like him then maybe the planet would not be under such a threat.

A Few Facts About Jack (by Steve Hardy)

Jack, like myself, was born in the West Riding, God's own county of Yorkshire.  He was born on New Years Eve 1911.

He studied at the Royal Vetinary College, London University.

Jack rose to the rank of Major during the second world war, in which he saw action throughout Europe with first the RA and then the Tank Corps, and was very involved with the Army's broadcasting activities.

One of Jack's ancestors, James Hargreaves, invented the Spinning Jenny in the eighteen century.  A fact of which I'm told, Jack was very proud.

Jack on the subject of sportsmen: If I'm a sportsman, at least I'm a real one.  Sport should be man against Nature; hunting, shooting, fishing, climbing and so on.  All too often it's Man against Himself, in competition.  That isn't sport - it's all ball games.

Two episodes of Jack's TV series 'Out Of Town', were chosen to be included in the National Film Archives.

In the United Kingdom, Jack is regarded as the Patron Saint of SHEDS!  (Absolutely true, see here for details)

Jack grew his own tobacco for that legendary pipe of his.

And....In 1969 he was voted Pipeman Of The Year.  (See here for details)

Jack was awarded both the OBE and the Silver Medal of the Royal Television Society.

Jack passed away in the late 1990's, he was cremated and his ashes scattered on the downland above Belchalwell.  Greatly missed, never to be replaced.
