Tour Devon is here to promote my love for North Devon. It is the Jewel in England's Crown. Everything a visitor or local could want, from top hotels to camp sites and cottages available in some of the most beautiful surroundings. Over a relatively short coastline you can find towering cliffs and rocky shores and miles of golden sand. Whether sunbathing, surfing, exploring the rock pools or simply playing on the beach, you can have a relaxed and happy time .Wildlife in abundance, Dolphins, porpoise and seals are frequently seen along the coast. Easy parking most of the time, a wide selection of foods from all parts of the world in restaurants and take-away's (not forgetting the legendary Devon Cream tea). For the shoppers the range is huge and varied, modern shopping centre's, quaint villages, farmers, indoor and open-air markets. Superstores to tiny specialists. For the energetic, miles of cycling and rambling through countryside or along cliff tops. Game, course and sea fishing. Leisure centre's and gymnasiums, go karting and paint ball, horse riding and carriage driving to name but a few of the things available and all within easy reach.
You can take Leisurely cruises along the coast , an hour, half day or day trip boat fishing or go for a day out on Lundy island. Throughout the summer there are frequent trips to South Wales aboard the Waverley or Balmoral or you could charter a boat for that special cruise. The choice is yours. The natural beauty of the North Devon countryside is obvious and examples of this can be seen in our
Gallery.Numerous theatres and Cinemas and very social bars, clubs and pubs (most are family orientated) Something for everyone to enjoy.
Our welcome is warm and friendly for individuals or families. Our accommodation first class and varied. Top class Hotels, Bed and Breakfast, Camping, Caravan or holiday parks, we have them all. One thing that is very rare is the violence on the streets found in many other places. Life is slower here, people have time for each other and this leads to a quality of life not found in many places. Add to all of this a climate that is consistently warmer than any other part of the UK. The second highest tidal range in the world (over 10 metres at times) and everything is ready for your day trip or longer holiday.

I am trying to trace the history of Charles Lower Buckingham and family who was married to Elizabeth Davie (one of the 13 children of the family that lived in the house on Lantern Hill Ilfracombe). He drowned with 13 others when the yacht Monarch sank off the tunnels beaches. If you can add any information about either the Buckingham or Davie families past or present please get in touch
I am also trying to discover how and why John Reeves drowned of Lundy island on 28th July 1843 - any information about this incident would be appreciated.
Do you know of a good farm shop or market or have you a recommendation for a shop or market in North Devon. If you do then please let me know the details
Is your club, group or organisation the best in North Devon? Yes? Let us know about it.
Do you have a business in North Devon or one that serves North Devon? Is it good enough to be added to this site. If you think it is then let us have the details. If we agree with you then we will add it to the site.

A note from the author

After completing a web design course and passing the exams I wanted a project that would put into practice what I had learnt. I live in North Devon and have loved every minute of my time here. I am extremely lucky to be able to live in such a beautiful part of the UK. Therefore the choice was made to build a site showing the best and worst about my chosen area. A site that would link to the other sites on the web that give good and accurate information about the area. A site that reflects my favourites. Most important, a site that gives you, the person who has taken the trouble to visit my site, the information you are looking for and, before I continue, I ask you to let me know if there is anything you would like to see here that I have missed. Contact me and I will do my best to discover whatever you are seeking

There are many sites about North Devon and I have tried to link to the best of them. There are many that don't seem to get updated. Sorry to the authors of those sites but they will not be included here.  To those I do include I say thank you to the authors.

This site will be updated on a daily basis.

As a potential visitor to the area, this site will help you find accommodation, things to do and see, history, transport (car, bus, boat, train or coach) ghost stories, local news, weather and tidal information.  Information about harbours, the fishing industry, sailing, boat trips, coarse and sea fishing, moorings and launching, plus info on our lifeboat and it's crew. There's details about our shops, offices and services, our pubs, inns, hotels, restaurants, take away's and entertainment, including a gig guides for the younger element. (I'm a bit old in the tooth for them). Guides to future events and a few personal stories about some of our local famous (and infamous) people.

In addition I have included details for getting your own web site at a reasonable rate.  Too many charge to much for this so I've found a way to do it extremely cheaply but with no loss of quality or service.

I hope you enjoy your visit to my site and hope you come back many times but most of all I hope your visit here has encouraged you come and see us and enjoy our Devon Welcome. Let me know your views on our town when you do and I will add them to the site. Devon cream teas don't count if your on a diet (that's what I tell myself anyway).

November 2006 and I had the biggest shock of my life. Thanks to a first aid lady called Dawn I am here to be able to tell you about it. My doctor has told me that without her I would have been dead in a week. Not a twinge before but on this Friday a feeling of being cold but sweating a lot. I wont bore you with all the details but in short, after being sent to hospital by Dawn it was found that the arteries in my heart were virtually closed off. Following major surgery to replace them on 20th December I am home and recovering.

This experience has changed my life for ever. I will never take a single day for granted. I will never take any living thing for granted. This site is my hobby and my original intention was to make a good site with information about the area I love. Now my intention is to make it the best site that is available. I don't know how long I have on this planet but I do know that I intend to leave something worthwhile and this site is going to be a major part of that.

If you have any suggestions for things I can include here then please let me know. I have a lot of ideas but I do want yours. the site is for the public, locals or visitors and it is what you want that will make this site the best. It is only with your input that the site will achieve it's purpose

I do not do this site for profit and never will. However the cost of keeping it going is increasingly difficult to cover on my pension. If you have enjoyed your visit and would like to help me cover the costs please consider making a small donation here . I would also be very interested in gaining a companies sponsorship.

All comments are welcome.
