This stunning Country House Hotel is set in 44 acres of landscaped gardens and beautiful North Devon countryside.  It is located within minutes of fine sandy beaches, such as Croyde, Woolacombe and Saunton, yet so accessible to the A361, too.  It is also within easy reach of Ilfracombe, Exmoor and the famous North Devon coastal path offering spectacular views.   The property, with origins in the Domesday Book and parts dating back some 400 years, was tastefully converted to a hotel in 1976 and has recently undergone a major refurbishment.

Our on-site “Tyme Restaurant” (which is also open to non-residents) is open all year for evening meals, Sunday and week-day lunches, private parties, weddings, conferences and workshops, etc. Please visit our website for details of special offers available and call 01271 868050 to check availability.

In addition to the Lounge Bar and Tyme Restaurant, the Hotel boasts wonderful facilities including en-suite bedrooms and suites, several self-catering cottages, a courtyard and extensive gardens where you can relax with a glass of wine. This, coupled with an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and games room for residents means that Trimstone Manor Country House Hotel has everything you need to relax and enjoy your stay.

LJ Canterbury 2/11/11 "Room was clean, quiet surroundings, staff extremely friendly and helpful, food was excellent. A really nice family-run hotel. Made to feel very welcome.  Tyme Restaurant - Had salmon to start - lots of it and very yummy. Monkfish wrapped in bacon for main - this was delicious, cooked really well with a gorgeous shrimp sauce. Vegetables cooked just the way I like - not overcooked but not too raw. Good choice on the menu too."

JW Tonbridge Wells 2/11/11 "I recently stayed at the hotel with a colleague and we were very pleased with the friendly staff and lovely atmosphere. We had a delicious meal in the restaurant. A huge portion of smoked salmon, followed by Monkfish wrapped in bacon. Delicious. "

It was such a shame that we didn't get much of a chance to take in the local area but driving through it was lovely.

JRF Barnstaple 2/11/11 "Trimstone Manor is a lovely place to spend time. 40 acres of glorious grounds to cocoon us against the mad world outside. A really great place for a get away, but also close to lots of attractions in Devon. We loved it.  Took the family and grandparents to Tyme restaurant for Sunday lunch, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The food and wines are excellent. For me you can't beat Beef and Yorkshire pudding but others also enjoyed the most delicious pate ever following by fresh salmon. The staff are very attentive, they gave excellent service and created a very friendly atmosphere to ensure we enjoyed ourselves. The children loved seeing the pets after lunch and we had a lovely afternoon."

Mr&Mrs C & Friends 6/11/11 "Excellent meal.  Lovely location - we will be back again before long."

Mrs AJL & Family 10/11/11 " Paddock Cottage.   Lovely location, lovely cottage, friendly staff, especially Mark and his delicious Scottish Scones!  Would come again and recommend!  Many thanks! x  Excellent standard of furnishings, equipment and decoration and excellent cleanliness.  Excellent caretaker/owner. Above average location.  I would consider going again to the same place as everything was of a high standard."

TRIMSTONE   MANOR   COUNTRY  HOUSE  HOTEL

A Unique Accommodation Option in North Devon – Fawlty Towers here we come?

The holiday trade is a seasonal one for the vast majority of hotels in North Devon . For the businesses which want to offer all-year-round facilities for visitors and indeed a good quality non-resident restaurant for locals to enjoy, retaining staff out of season can be a totally unaffordable thing, which is why many close-down altogether and restart the programme every Spring.

Trimstone Manor Country House Hotel is wondering about some of the alternatives and whilst the bumbling image of ‘Fawlty Towers’ is not one it wishes to emulate, one thing that Hotel offered and which could resonate with a new clientele for itself, is to consider offering accommodation to permanent guests. It could be the retired Major, the two sisters, the artist, writer, headmaster, retired civil servant......

Trimstone is a beautiful setting in which to live. It is right in the countryside yet at the top of the road, only 300 yards from the Hotel, are very regular buses and Braunton or Ilfracombe are only a matter of minutes away. There is a swimming pool, sauna and gardens to enjoy and for the right type of people, opportunity to become ‘part of the welcoming furniture’ for other guests who come to stay and dine – or else to be as independent as they want. You could dabble in the garden or participate in the community of the Hotel if you want, to make the Place your ‘home’ yet without any of the responsibilities. Your accommodation bills would pay everything, including having someone to come and clean your room every day - a bit like living on a cruise liner! For the right person, this could be an enjoyable way to spend retirement savings or a pension, and an option that some may find preferable to moving into a Residential Home. It would also give you time to concentrate on the things you want to do – playing bridge, golf or other sports, entertaining friends, you name it.

The owners, Philip and Helen Milton, believe this is a wonderful opportunity for a few people to come and live at the Hotel, becoming part of the character of the Place. It is not a ‘retirement home’ and they don’t want it to be one but then, there are many people out there with independent means who may not want to cater for themselves anymore and are fed-up with the worries of home ownership and who would love the idea of becoming a ‘permanent resident’ in a lovely property yet if it doesn’t work for them, well, they just pay their Hotel bill and go – what could be easier? It could suit a couple or a single person alike and someone seeking quiet or a person who loves to engage with other people

So, how much does it cost and what are the terms? This is a big experiment for the owners too and they believe it is right to ensure that the Place fits for the residents who might want to come and live in the Hotel. It won’t be for everyone but for some it could be just the break they’ve been looking for and it’s not anything like as expensive as some might think and certainly not half as dear as the very high cost of going into the average Residential Home.

Why do the owners want to do it? Philip and Helen believe that some permanent guests will help the Hotel stay open all year (as the ongoing costs of running a Hotel do not stop just because it is quiet!), whilst also realising that this could be a perfect opportunity for the right person.
